Recipient Org: Description | Established in March 1986, Surrey Drug and Alcohol Care (SDAC) is a registered charity and company limited by guarantee. The object of the organisation is to relieve sickness, particularly amongst persons suffering from addiction to drugs and alcohol. To this end, the charity provides a 24/7 manned confidential helpline giving emotional support, information and advice to drug and alcohol users, their families and friends within Surrey. The service aims to provide a listening ear, offer motivational support and encouragement and advice and information on drugs and alcohol. The organisation can immediately refer young people between the ages of 13 and 19 and adults into treatment services, and carers into counselling services. The helpline service is free of charge and calls can be received at any time of the day or night, 365 days of the year, thereby providing a continuous service for those in need of help with addiction problems. The charity is governed by a Board of 7 Trustees and runs on the commitment of a team of 33 volunteers. In addition to receiving helpline calls, the charity's trained volunteers also deliver information and education packages into Surrey schools, colleges and to other interested groups. |
