Recipient Org: Description The aim of the project is to support, encourage and promote a vibrant, happy community spirit through the provision of an accessible, welcoming, safe and versatile space that is available for the enjoyment of a range of activities to a range of ages from 5 years and upwards. The hall is available for the whole community of Melbourne and surrounding areas. It is available for public and private functions and provides regular enablement for a number of organised groups, bodies, institutions and functions. The Hall actively recognizes and values diversity, welcoming all individuals and groups without distinction. The indoor and outdoor space of the Hall provides a versatile amenity for the enjoyment of a broad range of social, leisure, educational, entertainment and welfare activities and events. The Hall is accessible and available at the heart of the Melbourne community. It will be welcoming to all members of the local community that are encouraged to enjoy the facility to it full potential. The building and environment will be safe and will meets all legislative and relevant public building requirements. By design the building will be versatile in being able to accommodating a wide variety of activities. The building and the management committee will continually deliver a modern, valued and sustainable amenity to fulfill the needs, realise the aspirations and promote the well being of our local community. The Hall actively recognizes and values equality and diversity, welcoming individuals and groups without distinction of age, gender, gender reassignment, sexual orientation, marital status, race, nationality, ethnic origin, colour, religion or belief, ability or disability In order that all of these activities can take place we will build a hall that has access and toilet facilities for able and disabled users, it will use modern LED lighting and heating to be the most efficient it can be. We will be able to keep the building warm in winter months with the radiators, double-glazing and cavity wall insulation and cool in summer months with opening sky lights and windows. The main hall will be large and high enough to accommodate a broad range of physical activities including baton twirling and indoor pioneering. There will be secure WiFi internet access throughout, a hearing loop and CCTV to cover the needs and requirements of many groups but still offer the safety and security when hiring the hall. The fittings and decor will make the building warm and welcoming but at the same time it will be durable and practical. Additional storage facilities will be incorporated and some of this will be accessible directly from the main hall for ease of use. The kitchen will be well equipped and easy to keep clean; this will encourage an increase in the number and range of cooking classes available. The kitchen has been designed to accommodate a large number of people being able to prep and cook at the same time. It will give us a greater opportunity to teach cooking and with a large and safer facility, we can do this from age 6 upwards. There will be two additional meeting rooms upstairs accessible via stairs or lift if required which will allow the possibility of running two or more activities and or meetings at one time. The rooms will have access to the WiFi and will provide additional low level storage for groups as required, plus the availability of a tea/coffee making station in the large meeting room. These meeting rooms will be able to be booked separate to the main hall and kitchen increasing the opportunity to accommodate local residents at a range of different clubs and groups. The outside area will offer a grass area for outdoor activities and a small area of cultivation to be used as part of various healthy eating projects and Scouting badges. There will be off street parking and secure bike storage. The outside area of permeable paving can also be safely secured from the road and therefore used for additional outdoor activity where in winter for example the grass may not be suitable to use. We plan that the new building will open with bookings already in place from all of the existing users of the old building (which can be seen below). In addition, many more groups will move in to take advantage of the new facilities. Future activities might include residents meetings, Community police drop in sessions, Mid Essex NHS outreach services, fitness classes or health and well being groups. Many of these activities address more than one need of the local community; however the lists below reflect a suggested primary focus. Health and Well being: Beaver Scouts, Cub Scouts, Scouts, Explorer Scouts, Homework club, Baton Twirlers, Senior baton twirlers, Dance classes, fitness class and health classes Social Isolation: Retired persons club, Pottery club, Parent and toddler group, homework groups and cookery classes. Occasional users include: Cooking for Children, Fun week, Children's parties, meetings, Fund raising events and Christmas day gatherings.
