This project will employ a full-time Welsh Development Officer to recruit and support volunteers to organise monthly friendship groups for isolated, older people. This is a continuation of existing work in Wales. The grant, over three years, will pay for salaries, recruitment, general running expenses, training, travel, organisational overheads and office equipment.
Highlands Development Officer
This project will support the development of new initiatives and existing groups across the Highlands who help to reduce the social isolation of the rurally isolated and disabled elderly. The project will look at developing new ways of tackling social isolation in more practical ways in the most rurally isolated areas, through friendship/reminiscence groups and homevisits for housebound elderly.
Piloting the Future
Contact the Elderly exists to relieve the isolation faced by frail older people (mostly 80 years plus), many of whom are also disabled. It does this through a network of Regional Development Officers who recruit and encourage volunteers to befriend older people, providing activities, company and friendship for them.
