Beadwork pilot
This group's idea is for a project to enable socially isolated Scottish women to learn about the beadwork of Maasai women and develop their own skills to sell traditional Tanzanian bead and leather work in the UK. The grant will fund conference costs, advertising, childcare and transport costs, meeting room hire, trainers, co-ordinator fees, merchandise samples, promotional costs/materials and administration.
HIV/AIDs Impact Mitigation thro' Community-Based Agricultural Development
Much of the land in the Machakos District in the Eastern Province of Kenya is marginal and suffers from periodic drought, which impacts upon the population?s ability to earn a living from agriculture. The spread of HIV/AIDS has made the situation much worse as the epidemic is affecting the most productive family members. When these family members fall ill or die, the loss of agricultural labour and knowledge affects household food security and income.
